Sensory Sour Symposium in New Orleans on March 10


Eric and Lauren Salazar will teach attendees the art of blending sour beers


Ft. Collins, Colo., February 22, 2016 – Have you always wanted to try and blend your own sour beer? Now is your chance! New Belgium Brewing’s wood cellar team – sensory specialist and blender Lauren Salazar (recently named Imbibe Magazine’s ‘Beer Person of the Year’) and Cellar Meister Eric Salazar (of New Belgium’s Eric’s Ale fame), will host a Sour Symposium on Thursday, March 10 at Warehouse Grille in New Orleans. It’s the third Sour Symposium, out of five, set for 2016. Attendees will gain a new appreciation for sour beer and get a hands-on opportunity to experiment with making their own sour blend.

“The centuries old techniques that go into beer blending are intricate and full of variance,” said Lauren Salazar. “The sour beer world is an imaginative one, and every guest at the Sour Symposium has a chance to try their hand at this craft and leave with their own special blend.”

The New Orleans Symposium will feature two different sessions, each lasting two hours. Guests will experience the life cycle of blending beer – from grain to grass – and will use the same techniques Lauren and Eric use in New Belgium’s cellars. Unblended base beers kept in individual foeders of the brewery’s cellar will be up for grabs for guests to mix and match their own sour creations.

The evening will include New Belgium’s La Folie, NBB Love Oscars from four foeders, and the brewery’s flagship beer Fat Tire.
