Zac Caramonta and Josh Erickson both are homebrewers turned craft brewery owners. The friends made their acquaintance in the Mystic Krewe of Brew homebrew club on the Northshore years ago. Today, they are pumping out their brews commercially as two of the 11 craft breweries in the state of Louisiana. Chafunkta Brewing Company sold their first pint of beer in April 2013, and Zac was at the release party to help Josh celebrate. And this past May, Gnarly Barley made their debut, with Josh right there cheering Zac on.
Of course it was inevitable that these friends would collaborate on a beer together. And with Louisiana Craft Brewers Week right around the corner, the timing was perfect. The beer style and name is to remain under wraps until closer to its unveiling. But I can tell you that a beer named after a Megadeth lyric has to be pretty badass. And I can assure you this should be a badass beer.
It’s also a very limited production, with only 6 kegs making it to various bars during the LCBW. I can tell you that the collaboration beer will be tapped in Baton Rouge at Chimes East on Monday September 22nd at 5PM then later that evening at Pelican House around 8PM. It will be featured in New Orleans on Tuesday the 23rd at Capdeville at 5:30 then at Bulldog Midcity at 8PM. Wednesday sees it at The Irish House in New Orleans at 6PM (more details on this event coming very soon). And finally, The Barley Oak in Mandeville will tap it on Thursday at 7PM.
I’m chomping at the bit to try this one. Hope to see some of you at one of the events.
