Beer review: Deep Ellum IPA

4 Sep

Last weekend I traveled to Dallas to cheer on my LSU Tiger football team as they took on the TCU Horned Frogs in the palace that is Cowboys Stadium. Of course I took the opportunity to bring some local beer home with me.

Deep Ellum is probably the biggest Dallas brewery. They can all of their off premise offerings, and I took a six pack of their IPA home. This one pours a beautiful copper color with a nice citrusy aroma. They call it an “ode to the Pacific Northwest hop.” It lives up quite nicely to that billing. This one strikes a nice balance between hop flavor and bitterness with a malt backbone that holds up to the hops.

I’m really enjoying the Deep Ellum IPA, and should you find yourself in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, you should too.

This one gets 4 out of 5 bottle caps (or pull tabs in this case).

Also in Dallas for the game, and made it to Franconia brewery. Founded by a real German brewer; interesting story. Rahr is another good beer from Dallas area.
