Beer review: Dogfish Head Sixty One

22 Aug

Time for a quick beer review. Today, it’s Dogfish Head Sixty One, the continually hopped India Pale Ale brewed with Syrah grape must.

It pours a purplish amber color with a quickly dissipating head and a nice carbonation. The aroma is, well, musty. I almost get a smoky aroma to it. Certainly no hops. The taste is rather bland as well. It’s like they took 60 Minute IPA and killed it. Now, to be fair I’ve had a Pliny the Elder and Running Monk Chainsaw Unicorn double IPA before drinking this one. So, maybe that’s the problem. I’m getting a bit of a fruity finish from it, but that’s about it.

It’s not bad, but I don’t have to have it again. For the people who don’t generally like IPAs, don’t fret, this beer is for you.

Dogfish Head gets credit for trying here, but this was a swing and a miss for me.

I give it 3 bottle caps out of 5. Drinkable, but not memorable.

i always looked at this one as a beer for wine lovers. it drank just like a carbonated Syrah.
