Ponchatoula’s Gnarly Barley Brewing, a brewery in planning, will be serving three beers at Zapp’s Beer Fest in Baton Rouge this weekend. Owners Zac and Cari Caramonta have created numerous really tasty, yet approachable beers and I’ve been fortunate to try several of them. The Catahoula Common is a California Common that’s fermented with lager yeast at a higher temperature giving it more of an ale profile and weighs in at 5.7%. The Radical Rye PA is an 8% imperial pale ale brewed with rye which gives it a peppery spice and is nice and hoppy. Both of these will be on tap this weekend. I’ve also tried their Hoppopotomus IPA and Korova Milk Porter which won’t be making an appearance at this beer fest, but are both excellent brews.
However, they will debut a new beer for the beergoers on Saturday. The Exchange Student is a Belgian Dubbel that weighs in at 8.6% ABV. I’m excited to give this one a try, as this is one of my favorite styles not named IPA or stout. 🙂 Check out the cool image they’re using for it:
They will also have some of these rad t-shirts for sale!
Come support Gnarly Barley and all the other local breweries and homebrewers at Zapp’s on Saturday from 3:30 til 6:00.
