The Truck, The Brewer, And The Blogger II

On Thursday, November 29th, the Tin Roof brewery in Baton Rouge played host to The Truck, The Brewer & The Blogger II. If you recall, I attended the first The Truck, The Brewer & The Blogger event back in early May of this year. Six months later, it was a bit more comfortable in the brewery, but the event was just as nice.

Jay Ducote, who among other things, is the face behind the Bite and Booze blog invited both my wife and I to attend. For those of you who don’t know, my wife writes the monthly Stirring It Up  column for City Social magazine. So we are a blogging tag team.

The evening began with our choice of Tin Roof beers as we found our seats. I sat next to my friend Eric Ducote, Jay’s brother and the guy behind BR Beer Scene, and we had some other friends at our table, which made for a really enjoyable evening.

The first appetizer was a red beans and smoked sausage spring roll that really captured the esscence of the classic red beans and rice dish. The Louisiana Re-Imangined theme got off to a smoking start.

Next up was a fried oyster on wilted spinich with absinthe butter sauce. It’s a shame we only got one each.

The soup was a cream of corn maque choux with crumbled bacon. Did I hear bacon? This paired really well with the Tin Roof Blonde ale.

Up next  was herb roasted quail atop andouille risotto with fried okra and gumbo sauce. Talk about Louisiana Re-Imagined. This was fantastic, and the Tin Roof Perfect Tin amber was a nice pairing.

What followed was a turtle over smothered potatoes with a sherry redux drizzle and hard boiled egg crumbles, all served with the newly canned Tin Roof Voodoo Bengal pale ale.

Of course, everyone looks forward to dessert. And like the May event, Christina Stephens did not disappoint with her cupcake. This one was a rum soaked banana cupcake that featured everything about Bananas Foster save the open flame. The Tin Roof Parade Ground coffee porter was excellent with it.

In all, a wonderful night featuring succulent dishes prepared on site, nice beer pairings from Tin Roof, and great company. Thank you Jay for the invite, and I am already looking forward to the next installment in the spring of 2013. Hope to see some of you there as well.
