On the heels of Atlanta’s SweetWater Brewing’s entrance into Louisiana late last summer, another Georgia brewery has plans to bring it’s beer to this state. Athens’ Terrapin Beer Company has signed a deal with Crescent Crown Distributing and will be coming into Louisiana in January 2014. Terrapin, the makers of beers like Hopsecutioner IPA, Wake-N-Bake coffee oatmeal stout, Moo Hoo chocolate milk stout, and others, will be a great addition to this state’s ever growing craft beer market.
I’m not surprised that they are coming to Louisiana, as representatives were in the state earlier this year, on what I suspected was a distributor-hunting trip. I also wouldn’t be surprised if they ended up collaborating with NOLA Brewing, since Terrapin has a double IPA named Hopzilla, and NOLA has a double IPA named Mechahopzilla.
I know I look forward to having their regular and seasonal offerings here. Earlier this year, I did a blind taste test with Wake-N-Bake, the acclaimed Founders Breakfast Stout, and Santa Fe’s Java Stout, and Wake-N-Bake was the winner for me. I was actually surprised, as I expected to enjoy the Founders more than the others.
Terrapin also makes an easy drinking Rye pale ale, Pumpkinfest, a pumpkin beer, Monk’s Revenge, a Belgian IPA, and other seasonal beers. Their Side Project series features bombers of one time beers that are always some interesting styles.
Another big get for Louisiana, and I’m happy to have them.
